RR/900/CM
To whom it may concern,
Sorry for the delay in
responding on this but I wanted to add mine and the support of Wealden District
Council
As a collection
authority, Maresfield is used daily for the transference of materials collected
as part of our waste, recycling, street cleansing and bulky waste services
within Wealden.
In the modern world,
where batteries in particular are more common in waste than ever, have changed
the risk level for fires at transfer stations. Should a fire occur at a
transfer station without a suppression system in place, the consequences could
be severe if the fire causes significant damage to the building.
The impact on residents
will be significant as it will affect our ability to collect and dispose of our
residents waste while facilities are out of action for possibly many months
depending on the extent of damage.
Likewise we would
support the application at Pebsham as failure here would put additional
pressure on Maresfield if this has to be used to manage waste that would
previously been taken to Pebsham.
In recent months we
have suffered several vehicle fires with the cause attributed to batteries
within the waste. Thankfully these have not end with the loss of the vehicle
due to the swift action of the crew and the fire service.
Therefore, we fully
support these applications as it will help reduce the risk level and ensure
that should a fire occur the level of damage will be minimal.
Kind regards
Ray
